Search for escaped inmates expanding as it enters 3rd day

The Georgia Department of Corrections identified the guards as Christopher Monica and Curtis Billue, both officers at Baldwin State Prison. They were being transported Tuesday when they allegedly killed two correction officers before making their escape. Blood flowed off the bus and onto the pavement. 31 other prisoners were on board the bus and they all stayed behind until officers arrived on scene. "Very frustrating", said Sill.

Donnie Russell Rowe, 43, and Ricky Dubose, 24, were taken into custody after a vehicle chase in Rutherford County and a crash led to law enforcement running after the fleeing inmates as they ducked into woods near an interstate.

The details came out after Sills had a firefighter force open the folding door at the steps onto the bus that was transporting prisoners to the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison outside of Jackson.

The Sheriff's Office is working with several agencies, including the State Law Enforcement Division and U.S. Marshals. But nothing solid so far, officials said.

"My biggest worry is they're going to kill somebody else", Sills said.

The inmates were being hunted in the killings Tuesday morning of two prison guards who were overpowered, disarmed and shot to death on a prison bus southeast of Atlanta.

Sills went one better than that.

Deal has vowed to organize every state resource necessary to capture two inmates from custody.

A trooper was dispatched and they were able to issue a description and a tag number within an hour.

"There's never been a reward that large". "They need to surrender before we find 'em", Sills said. And it's not just because of the crime, it's because the public is in grave danger.

The FBI has launched a nationwide media campaign to alert the public about Dubose and Rowe, who are armed with the officers' weapons. He was serving a 20-year sentence for armed robbery and assault.

Denise Monica, 53, an Olean High School graduate, has lived in Georgia for about 16 years and has a 16-year-old daughter with Christopher Monica, according to Flegal.

Sills said the resources committed to apprehending the two prisoners are also unprecedented.

Dubose's family has pleaded for the inmate to turn himself in.

Jones said anyone with information about the whereabouts of Rowe and Dubose should not attempt to take action and instead immediately contact their local law enforcement.

He said investigators believe Rowe and DuBose ransacked a home in Madison, Morgan County, Ga. around 10 or 11 a.m.

Tracking dogs and footprints led officers into the woods behind the house.

The Honda Civic was later found in a wooded area behind a Rite Aid convenience store in Madison.

"We can assume they don't have money", Sills said "They are doing like most escapees do".

Update 9 p.m. ET Authorities say both men were apprehended after a vehicle chase in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

"This callous, heinous crime is another stark reminder how risky it is for all our law enforcement Brothers and Sisters across this country".
