Smarter Siri and More Updates Arriving with iOS 11

The use of such a technology would be instrumental in saving lives lost due to distracted driving.

Soon, Apple will introduce a new iPhone feature that will do away with that annoying - and risky - urge to look at a text message while you're driving.

iOS 11 for iPhone and iPad will debut this fall, Cupertino, Calif. -based Apple said.

"By blending digital objects and information with the environment around you, ARKit takes apps beyond the screen, freeing them to interact with the real world in entirely new ways", according to Apple. With iOS 11, that part of iOS's settings menu is now known as "iPhone Storage" (presumably, it's called "iPad Storage" on Apple's line of tablets, though we haven't had a chance to verify that fact just yet).

Apple appears to be solving this problem in iOS 11. Other than that, if the iPhone's system detects the car's moving speed using the Wi-Fi antenna, the feature will be switched on.

Phones connected to cars with Bluetooth capabilities, or through a cable, will withhold any notifications from texts or news updates while the vehicle is in motion, CNN Money reported.

Do Not Disturb While Driving Mode: Will It Really Help? Apple may be able to help.

While Apple is likely to stand by their refusal to allow financial institutions access to the chip (alleging security concerns), the decision to open up the iPhone's NFC chip to other applications could make things like the iPhone's interactions with wireless speakers even faster and easier. Passengers who're not driving can disable the feature so their phones work normally.

Basically, if all this techy jargon isn't making much sense, this whole mess simply means that if you're an iPhone 5 user, you'll be stuck using iOS 101, and will no longer be able to receive software updates for new features...
