NSCN (K) chief SS Khaplang passes away at 77 in Myanmar

NSCN (K) chief SS Khaplang passes away at 77 in Myanmar

In memory of the departed leader who had dedicated all his life to the cause of the Naga people, let all Naga people dedicate ourselves to strive for peace, harmony and well-being of the entire Naga family so that we and our children can march ahead with the rest of the world as equals in the 21 century and even more'.

"We appeal that all the Indian Nagas in NSCN should surrender and return to the mainstream".

"And the need for all different Naga political (rebels) groups to come together to air our views and aspirations to the Government of India in one voice is absolutely imperative", he added.

Asked about the ongoing peace talks with Ulfa's pro-talk faction, Rijiju said that these were moving in right direction and have reached nearly their final stage.

The minister said about Khaplang death that, he was the heart and soul of the rebel group and the organisation will be suffered without him. Though, elusive Ulfa (I) chief Paresh Baruah is the senior most leader but doesn't have the strength of his organisation to stake claim.

"The objective of the organisation will never be fulfilled now".

Indian intelligence officials, with the active help of Myanmar Army, are keeping a close watch on the funeral of veteran Naga insurgent leader, SS Khaplang, who died on Friday at Taga in the Sagiang Division of Myanmar, top sources have told BharatShakti.in from India's north-east.

Pointing out that Khaplang was the pillar of the insurgency thriving from Myanmar, security sources said that Khaplang has created a command area on both side the global border.

In 2016, the NSCN-Khaplang's killing of 20 Indian Army soldiers in an ambush in Manipur sparked off a supposed cross-border raid into Myanmar, targeting the group's infrastructure.

"So his death is a setback for all dependent organisations", he added.

"We are facing lots of difficulties due to NSCN (K) in areas like Nagaland, east of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and some impact in Assam as well". While the government has signed a framework agreement with the NSCN (I-M) in August 2015, Khapalang walked out of the ceasefire in early 2015 and chose to team up with the Paresh Baruah faction of the ULFA and KYKL (a Manipur insurgent group).

"It's an illegal organisation", he said.
