Testimony resumes in Ohio police shooting retrial

Testimony resumes in Ohio police shooting retrial

Mathews used about 30 minutes to deliver his opening statements during Tensing's first trial and again on Thursday.

She said he disregarded his police training during the traffic stop.

Attorneys will continue questioning potential jurors for a third day on Tuesday in the Ray Tensing case.

Former University of Cincinnati police officer Ray Tensing is seen in an undated booking photo from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office in Ohio.

The retrial of former University of Cincinnati police officer Ray Tensing on murder charges is set to begin Wednesday after a lengthy jury selection process concluded this morning.

Mathews agreed that Tensing made a mistake by reaching into the vehicle. Ray Tensing, center, listens to the opening statement by his defense attorney Stewart Mathews during his retrial Thursday, June 8, 2017, at the Hamilton County Courthouse in Cincinnati.

Tensing, who is white, shot DuBose, an unarmed black man, during a traffic stop on July 19, 2015. A mistrial was declared last November in the first trial after jurors could not agree.

Mathews said DuBose "wouldn't have ended up shot" if he had complied with Tensing's orders and hadn't attempted to flee. The vehicle started rolling forward slowly, and with his arm pinned against the steering wheel, according to his lawyer, Tensing pulled his gun and fired once.

The jury consists of seven white women, two white men, one black man, and two black women.
