White House: Trump won't seek to block Comey testimony

Megyn Kelly didn't get much out of Vladimir Putin, but she did get the interview that was screaming to be done.

Putin also told NBC that regardless of Trump's previous travel to Russian Federation as a businessman, he had had no relationship with him and had never met him.

Megyn Kelly's highly-anticipated debut on NBC News landed with a thud on Sunday. "We didn't have any relationship at all".

He said he never met Trump on any of his trips to Moscow. "And then afterwards I was told, you know that was an American gentleman", the Russian president said.

In the interview, Putin claimed that "a child" could have hacked the United States election and alleged that Russian Federation may have been framed.

Putin also said he had no idea if the Russian ambassador to Washington had held contacts with the Trump campaign before the November election. "We have a lot of Americans who visit us", Mr Putin said in an interview with USA television network NBC's "Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly".

When Kelly asked about Americans who may think he's an autocratic ruler who jails dissidents and kills journalists, Putin replied, "Russia is developing along a democratic path".

After all, why would anyone think a man who spent years as a KGB foreign intelligence officer might gather information on powerful foreign business leaders when they are in his backyard?

Putin said "Well, this is just another load of nonsense". I didn't even really talk to him.

"Therefore, if we were to discuss some kind of political and social justice, then probably that electoral legislation needs to be changed and bring a situation where the head of state would be elected by direct secret ballot and so there will be direct tabulation of votes that can be easily monitored", he said. He has also been accused of not reporting his meeting with Putin and income from Russian sources, such as payments from RT.

Several senior US intelligence officers have said publicly that Russian spy agencies are responsible for interfering in last year's election, putting them at odds with President Donald Trump.

Comey, ousted last month amid the FBI investigation into possible Trump campaign ties to Russian Federation, is set to testify Thursday before the Senate intelligence committee. "You created a sensation out of nothing".

In an interview on American television last night, the Russian president - who denies any involvement in the hacking of email accounts of top Democrats that many believe helped swing the November vote in Mr Trump's favour - said U.S. spies could be have been behind the data theft. "That is the extent of my acquaintance with Flynn".

Flynn has declined to testify to the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee about his Russian ties, invoking his constitutional right to avoid self-incrimination.

There were plenty of other denials - for example Mr Putin said he barely spoke to former United States security adviser Michael Flynn at a dinner in Moscow in 2015, saying: "I didn't really talk to him".

Putin denied that he had any knowledge of such encounters, at first telling Kelly that there "were no meetings" before clarifying that he had not been informed because there was "nothing to even talk about".
