Return to path of denuclearization: United Nations to North Korea

Return to path of denuclearization: United Nations to North Korea

"With the missile impacting so close to Russian soil in fact, closer to Russia than to Japan the President can not imagine that Russia is pleased", the statement read.

"We consider (the missile test) counter-productive, harmful and unsafe", Putin said.

North Korea claimed the missile is capable of being armed with a nuclear warhead.

"We are calling on all those folks in the region, particularly China and Russian Federation, to do everything they can in terms of sanctions to help resolve this situation and bring stability to the peninsula", White House spokesman Sean Spicer told reporters Monday.

The council members also "vowed to fully implement all measures imposed on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea by the Security Council and strongly urge all other member states to do so in an expeditious and serious manner", referring to North Korea by its formal name. Distance-wise, the missile could reach the USA, but a nuclear warhead has to be detonated at just the right altitude for maximum impact.

On the 38 North website, aerospace engineering specialist John Schilling said it appeared to demonstrate a ballistic missile that could "reliably strike the USA base at Guam" in the Pacific.

Experts believe the North's new missile is the longest-range weapon ever successfully tested by the isolated nation.

The North has carried out two atomic tests and dozens of missile launches since the beginning of a year ago in its quest to develop a missile capable of delivering a nuclear warhead to the continental United States - something President Donald Trump has vowed "won't happen". The country's dictator Kim Jong Un is warning (he's done it before) that the country is well on its way to striking the US mainland and military bases throughout the Pacific Ocean.

Kim witnessed the test and "hugged officials in the field of rocket research, saying that they worked hard to achieve a great thing", according to the news agency. It released several photos of both the launch and Jong Un's reaction, none of which, could be independently confirmed or verified.

At a media briefing at its embassy in Beijing, North Korea's ambassador to China said the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency and South Korean National Intelligence Service conspired "secretly and meticulously" in hatching their plot to use "radioactive or nano-poisonous substances" to assassinate Kim. US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley delivers remarks at a Security Council in April at the United Nations Headquarters, in NY.

"It tells Russian Federation, 'I can touch you too, '" former director of operations at the US Pacific Command's Joint Intelligence Center Carl Schuster said.

KCNA also quoted Kim as accusing the United States of "browbeating" countries that "have no nukes", and said Kim warned Washington "not to misjudge the reality that its mainland is in the North's "sighting range for [a] strike". She said the United States will continue to "tighten the screws" against Pyongyang.

The test missile flew 1,200 miles into space, so as the reentry vehicle came back to Earth it encountered extreme heat and buffeting when it hit the atmosphere.
