Melania Trump wears $51K Dolce & Gabbana jacket in Sicily

Melania Trump wears $51K Dolce & Gabbana jacket in Sicily

First lady Melania Trump wore the equivalent of an average American family's income on her back for her appearances Friday in Sicily, Italy, on the final day of her first foreign trip as FLOTUS.

CNN.com reports the Dolce & Gabbana jacket worn by the first lady on Friday was the most expensive item of clothing the former model has worn since her husband was elected to the White House.

The black midi dress incorporated a crew neckline, short sleeves and decorative buttons at the bodice.

Trump wore this attention-grabbing piece while stepping out in Catania, Italy, with the fellow spouses of G7 leaders, and soon she will tour Sicily with the world leaders' wives.

The dress retails for $3,995 and is now sold out on Modaoperandi.com. She also carried a matching clutch for $1,630, but beneath her coat she kept it simple in a beige sheath and coordinating pumps.

The mother to Barron, one of Donald's five children, participated in several rallies across the country wearing Louboutin's So Kate style throughout his election bid. Both women also wore all-white dresses in Israel with the First Daughter, accessorizing her long-sleeved white dress with Dannijo statement emerald earrings.

The coat, worn over a simple beige dress, sells for only $5,000 less than the median US household income in 2015.

After Mr Trump's election, a number of fashion designers publicly refused to dress the First Lady for the inauguration.

"Thank you", Mr Gabbana captioned, with several love heart symbols and #DGWOMAN. She also arrived at Rome's Leonardo da Vinci Airport Tuesday afternoon in a Dolce & Gabbana button-front coat with gold brocade on a fluted neck collar and at the wrists. The U.S. government does not provide first ladies with a wardrobe allowance - though attire for official events of public or historic significance may be given as a gift by a designer and accepted on behalf of the U.S. government.

But it was the jacket that everyone noticed; it was breathtaking - and so was the price tag: On the ModaOperandi.com luxury website, interested buyers can see it costs $51,500 (a $25,100 deposit required) and will not be available until July.
