United, American Airlines planes clip wings at Austin airport

Newark Liberty International Airport re-opened after an engine caught fire on a San Francisco-bound flight Tuesday night.

Two planes on the runway at Austin-Bergstrom International airport Wednesday night bumped into each other's wings, causing noticeable damage to at least one of the aircrafts, airport officials confirmed.

Passengers were kept on the planes as the pilots waited for permission from the FAA to deboard the airliners. "It was supposed to leave at 8:20 p.m., [but] at 9 p.m. we were still on the tarmac".

Passengers can no longer be bumped off overbooked flights to make room for airline staff under new rules introduced in the wake of the United Airlines scandal.

No crew members or passengers aboard American Airlines flight 2675 were injured, according to a spokesperson for American Airlines. They are working to replace the plane so service can resume.

After the tower notified Flight 1579 of the fire, the flight crew deployed the plane's slide chutes and evacuated the passengers on the tarmac. "The flight attendant told us to evacuate the plane, to come out the left side of the plane and go down the slides".

Reports of five minor injuries also surfaced. The passengers were then brought to Terminal C, Gate 71.

The jury now consists of seven men and four women - all but one of them white- in a case that Bill Cosby has said may have racial undertones.

Flight 1579 from Newark to San Francisco was scheduled to take off when officials said its engine caught fire. Passengers tell KXAN they were slowly let off the planes.
