Rain and cooler weather returns Tuesday

Rain and cooler weather returns Tuesday

But the clouds move back in on Sunday and the rain returns for both Sunday and, possibly, Monday.

A Flood Watch is still in effect for all of central North Carolina through Wednesday night.

For the rest of next week things look to stay unsettled with a 40-50% chance for scattered showers and storms each afternoon. It said severe weather wasn't expected, but there could be strong winds and hail. As of now, damaging winds and hail are the primary threats with some rotating storms possible. Severe weather is not expected during the holiday weekend.

Today and on Wednesday, the farther north you live, the better the weather will be.

Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the mid- to upper-60s.

Shower chances increase heading into the late evening. Otherwise, on Saturday and on Memorial Day, there will be a slight risk of a PM shower or storm.

Memorial Day: Partly sunny with a chance of showers, a high near 72 degrees and a low of about 55 degrees. It happened on May 5, 1950, when the high was 69.

Going into Monday, the weather service puts the likelihood of heavy rain at 100-percent, with temperatures in the mid 60s.

Sunday Night.Mostly cloudy. Lows near 70.

Our next storm system will be moving into the OH valley this evening, bringing in more clouds for us overnight. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.

Normal highs for the end of May are in the 74- to 75-degree range. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 7 miles per hour in the afternoon.

While it won't rain every minute of every day, keep your umbrella close at hand until probably Friday morning. The overnight low will be 57. North wind around 5 miles per hour.

Friday will be mostly sunny and warmer. Northwest wind 6 to 8 miles per hour. It will be partly sunny, with a high near 78. Lows in the mid 60s.

Thursday.Partly cloudy. Highs in the mid 70s. Thunderstorms will come with the warm-up as we head into the Memorial Day Weekend. The high will be 85; after a morning low of 67. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 56.
