Michael Flynn ordered to hand documents to Senate committee

Michael Flynn ordered to hand documents to Senate committee

The Senate Intelligence Committee has issued a subpoena to former national security adviser Michael Flynn for documents related to its investigation into Russian interference in the presidential election, committee leaders announced Wednesday.

The pair spoke several times over the next two days, with McGahn asking Yates how Flynn had fared during an interview with the Federal Bureau of Investigation earlier that week - she did not answer - and why it was the concern of the Justice Department if White House officials had misled each other.

Mr Flynn was sacked by the president after less than one month in the job.

Kelner has previously defended Flynn, saying that his client is not hiding anything and that, in fact, he briefed the Defense Intelligence Agency both before and after his trip to Russian Federation. Rice, a longtime target of Republicans, declined because her attorney said the invitation came late and without bipartisan consent.

And yet, at this point, Trump is still defending Flynn. Of how she went to the White House early this year to convey that President Trump's top national security adviser was lying about his Russian contacts, that the Russians knew it, that the adviser, General Michael Flynn, was open to blackmail.

An Obama administration official who warned the Trump White House about contacts between one of its key advisers and Russian Federation is set to speak publicly for the first time about the concerns she raised.

The February resignation followed media reports that Flynn had discussed USA -imposed sanctions on Russian Federation with Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the presidential transition period, which was contrary to the public representations of the White House.

Yates was also questioned, primarily by Republicans, about her decision not to enforce Trump's travel ban, which ultimately resulted in Trump firing her.

Spicer also took a shot at Yates for her alleged personal political biases, which he said could have influenced the Trump administration's willingness to act on the information.

Trump has said he has no nefarious ties to Russian Federation and isn't aware of any involvement by his aides in Moscow's interference in the election. Flynn once served as director of the agency.

But he added it was too soon to determine whether he would be willing to subpoena them from the White House.

After the hearing Monday, Trump tweeted: "The Russia-Trump collusion story is a total hoax, when will this taxpayer funded charade end?"

Flynn was forced to resign as Trump's national security advisor in February after failing to disclose the nature of phone discussions with Russia's ambassador in Washington, Sergey Kislyak. The revelation came after interviews with a host of former US officials, most of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity in order to discuss sensitive national security information.

Flynn has become a major focus of several congressional investigations into Russian Federation and the election. She'd been scheduled to testify in front of the House Intelligence Committee in March, but that testimony was abruptly canceled by Rep. Devin Nunes, who was chair of the committee but has since recused himself from the investigation.
