Mayawati expels Naseemuddin Siddiqui from BSP

From a petty contractor to a powerful politician, it was a remarkable journey for Naseemuddin Siddiqui who was expelled from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Wednesday.Resident of Girwa village in the backward Banda district, Siddiqui's family struggled for a living till he became a minister in the first BSP government in 1995.Siddiqui had joined the BSP in 1990 and soon became a close confidant of Mayawati.

Alleging that Mayawati had asked for Rs 50 crore from him, he said on Thursday: "I asked from where can I get this amount, to which, she asked me to sell my property". Siddiqui's stature increased after Mayawati expelled them from the party. He was under the lokayukta's scanner on the charge of having assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Siddiqui also claimed to have incriminating evidence against Mayawati and threatened to release them in the coming days.

Our correspondent reports that Naseemuddin Siddiqui and his son Afzal were expelled from the BSP yesterday, for anti party activities. Speaking at a press conference, Siddiqui said, "Mayawati ji ne mujhe bula kar poocha ki Musalmano ne BSP ko vote kyun nahi diya?"

Several workers also accused her of favouring Muslim candidates over dalits and OBC candidates. "There will be an natural disaster if I expose [party chief] Mayawati and BSP's secrets", he said at a press conference.

Unaware that her own trusted lieutenant was recording the conversation, in one of the tapes, Mayawati purportedly can be heard cautioning Siddiqui not to talk much on phone as her phone was "being tapped". When I explained that the Congress-SP alliance led to a split in votes, she disagreed. Siddiqui, who was expelled along with his son a day ago, said he had "ample proof" that Mayawati, her brother Anand and party General Secretary Satish Chandra Mishra made illegal demands to him.

He also alleged that Nasimuddin used to "accept money" from people in return for work and added that the "BSP will not tolerate such indiscipline".

Everyone can progress in life, Mayawati said.

Earlier, Naseemuddin Siddiqui was removed from the UP unit in-charge and was made the in-charge of MP unit after BSP's loss in the assembly elections.

He even launched a scathing attack on BSP national general secretary SC Mishra saying that he was minting a lot of money in the name of the party. "After today's expose, she should quit politics", BJP spokesman Chandra Mohan said.

He also claimed that during a meeting on April 19 Mayawati had tried to belittle Kanshi Ram by comparing party's showing in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab Assembly polls.
