WR Josh Gordon's reinstatement denied by NFL

WR Josh Gordon's reinstatement denied by NFL

Gordon, who has been on indefinite suspension since he entered rehab in September, saw his application for reinstatement denied by the National Football League on Thursday.

USA Today reports the All-Pro receiver's bid for reinstatement from a suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy has been denied by the NFL. Gordon has not played in a regular season game since 2014, but did participate in two preseason games this past season, recording five receptions for 116 yards with one touchdown.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Gordon had 87 catches for a league-leading 1,646 yards in 2013, his second year in the league.

Josh Gordon has had many opportunities to play wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns.

Branion quietly emerged as Gordon's agent several months ago, working with Gordon absent much fanfare or attention as Gordon dotted the i's and crossed the t's necessary to get himself reinstated.

Gordon was conditionally reinstated last summer by Roger Goodell, but the commissioner did not appreciate Gordon leaving the Browns for another stint in rehab before the conditional reinstatement took place. Our decision with Josh is just understanding where he is in this process and being able to have him.

August 27, 2014 - Gordon draws his second NFL suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy, this time for one full year. If this is a case where he needs to be saved from himself.

He's had issues with drugs since his college days at Baylor. The NFL also suspended him for two games in 2013 for violations of the substance abuse policy. The 30-year-old linebacker last played in a game in December 2013. The Browns selected him in the second round of the 2012 supplemental draft.
