Have seen worse, Kashmir situation will improve: Mehbooba Mufti

Have seen worse, Kashmir situation will improve: Mehbooba Mufti

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah today met CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury here and discussed the situation prevailing in Kashmir.

Calling Jammu and Kashmir as the crown of India, Mehbooba said, "The people of Jammu and Kashmir not only have right over Jammu and Kashmir, but on each part of the country and they should assert it".

On Saturday, Mehbooba Mufti also praised Narendra Modi for his last year's surprise visit to Lahore during Christmas. "Desist from discussions that disturb peace and generate hate and also hits tourism in J&K", she said. "They tried their best to bring out Kashmir out of this unfortunate situation". Mr Gillani said the student protests were under control to a large extent. There were talks with L K Advani (in Kashmir).

They shouted slogans against Mufti, Pakistan and ISI- sponsored terrorists, and burnt the effigy of the J&K chief minister. "But unfortunately Mufti was out of the government and Vajpayee ji left, and the process came to grinding halt", the PDP leader lamented.

Sharma drew comparisons between the present NDA government and the previous UPA regime over the issue, saying Modi's predecessor Manmohan Singh had handled the issue better, using "wisdom" to ensure "near-normalcy" in the state. "The lava was simmering and it surfaced in 2008 and 2010 and now it's what we are seeing", said the CM.

As Srinagar's civil secretariat reopened after six-month closure due to "Darbar Move", where the capital shifts to Jammu, the opposition Congress launched a scathing attack on Ms. Mufti.

Meanwhile, despite a ban on social media websites, a new video surfaced in Kashmir with suspected Hizbul Mujahideen militants seen torturing two youths, accusing them of being informers of the security forces.

"Farooq Abdullah sought a political approach from New Delhi to deal with the Kashmir Valley and to not deal with it exclusively through operational and law-and-order mechanisms", a National Conference spokesman said.
