Dana White: Canelo-GGG fight stole planned date for Mayweather vs. McGregor

Dana White: Canelo-GGG fight stole planned date for Mayweather vs. McGregor

It will be more than the 20,000 spectators who witnessed the tiresome encounter between Canelo Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr.at the T-Mobile Arena last Sunday at Las Vegas, Nevada. Throughout boxing history, only a popular champion or fight legend has ever had the leverage to demand an immediate rematch as a prerequisite to coming to terms.

Not long ago it was Floyd "Money" Mayweather lighting up the Las Vegas strip with his extravagant boxing events but now almost two years removed from a professional fight, he finds himself like us all of us in this great sport, a spectator.

In an interview with Fight Hub TV, UFC president Dana White revealed that Mayweather and McGregor were supposed to fight on September 16 if they agree to terms, but that's no longer possible since two of the best pound-for-pound boxers already had the date booked.

"Floyd wants this fight and we're trying to make it so let's see what happens", White told FightHub TV. I doubt Golovkin is going to allow Canelo to flurry and punch at his leisure the way he's been able to against his recent opponents.

Stylistically Golovkin should beat Canelo but that doesn't mean he will win the fight.

"Well I think a lot of times you have to taste defeat once or twice to grow as a fighter".

The destruction that Canelo Alvarez brought down upon Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on Saturday, May 6 was catastrophic. The fight was set at a catch weight of 164.5 pounds and Chavez Jr certainly appeared to show the effects of the weight cut.

There was tension between the two fighters along with political overtones as a commercial for the fight depicted both boxers bursting through President Donald Trump's proposed border wall.

That fight could finally happen in September, if the 26-year-old Alvarez can solve the unpredictable Chavez, a former middleweight champ. Promoter Oscar De La Hoya likened it to Mayweather-Pacquiao, only this super-fight would live up to expectations.

"He's a good fighter, but I've been taking care of my conditioning and training", Chavez said. Canelo and Triple G will hit each other. "I couldn't throw as many punches as I wanted".

Max Kellerman spoke to Canelo Alvarez post fight regarding his victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and who he planned to fight next. But that fight was a dog; both fighters were past their prime and they were there only because Floyd realized he had waited long enough to cash in on a matchup boxing had craved for years.

A confident Canelo didn't bother to sit in his corner after the seventh round of a fight that wasn't almost as competitive as hoped.
