School students clash with security forces in Kashmir

School students clash with security forces in Kashmir

Students from a government higher secondary school in Newa area of Pulwama district staged a protest against the alleged high-handedness of security forces.

Students of the Handwara Degree College marched towards the market square after hoisting the Pakistani flag, police said.

Meanwhile two Special Police Officers were wounded in a firing incident at a police post in Tanta area of Doda district in Jammu on Monday. The students pelted stones at security forces, who resorted to baton charge and tear smoke shelling, the official said, adding that clashes were going on till the reports last came in.

Students of the valley are holding protests ever since 60 students were injured at the hands of government forces in Pulwama on April 15. The police raid led to widespread protests by students across Kashmir, which continues.

Dozens of students sustained injuries in the forces action.

Later, the students dispersed off peacefully after protesting for half an hour. Some of the girl students fainted.

The students peacefully protested within the school premises amidst chanting of pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.

Sources said that many students were arrested by police which escalated the situation. The clashes continued for some time.
