New Android malware found every 10 seconds, report says

However, Google also releases a build of the developer preview before the launch that has lesser bugs and can be used by people on their smartphones.

"We thank you for your continued commitment to Android and Google Play".

The research company released a report at the end of last month that detailed their findings for the first quarter of 2017. If a given device is running an older version of Android, it won't necessarily be protected from emerging threats that are addressed in later versions.

It is important to note that G Data sells antivirus software for Android and therefore has vested interest in exposing the malware related data on the platform and many of these samples might be restricted to third-party app stores, as pointed out in a report by 9To5Google.

This means that the next beta build of Android O will be released within the next few months. We already know that the company has its own tradition of naming Android versions after all kinds of tasty treats. The upcoming Android O preview should bring overall better stability and performance improvements to the operating system. Reportedly, the feature will integrate the message text with relevant apps. In fact, the same goes for Android 5.0-5.1 Lollipop with 32%.

Despite Android O almost nearing launch, fragmentation remains a big issue for the Android ecosystem.

One app, called the Super Free Android Music Player, was found to have been downloaded between 5,000 and 10,000 times. Instead focus on the Google Play Store.

The prevalence of malware is due, in part, to Android fragmentation, as users running older versions of the software are easier to target.

In its report G Data emphasised the increasing importance of having an antivirus or security app installed on your device that will help you keep out malware, trojans, viruses and phishing attacks.

Google has just revealed the latest Android distribution numbers.
