World's Fattest Woman Leaves Hospital After Successful Surgery

World's Fattest Woman Leaves Hospital After Successful Surgery

Eman Ahmed weighed more than half a ton when she was operated on in Mumbai in March, but after a series of operations, dropped her weight to below 200kg.

"Our bed waited in the ambulance at the gate of the hospital building because they insisted on getting her down using their own bed", Gaffar alleged.

With the hard part of the procedure over and done with, Abd El Aty must now prepare to finish treatment back in the United Arab Emirates.

Despite the relative success of the surgery, orthopedic specialists have said that Abd El Aty would never walk again.

An image of Egyptian national Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty is displayed at a press conference attended by her Indian bariatric surgeon, Muffazal Lakdawala, in Mumbai on February 13, 2017. "And that fright that has led her to make all these allegations", Saifee Hospital COO Huzaifa Sehabi had said.

Dr Lakdawala confirmed in a blog post that Eman has lost 51 stone (324kg), writing: "Her thyroid levels are controlled, her kidney and liver tests are as good as any of us, her lung functions and oxygen levels are normal without any need of external oxygen".

Earlier, on Thursday, when Eman was set to leave Saifee Hospital, her sister Shaimaa had allegedly objected to signing certain paperwork. She now weighs 389 pounds. Arguments over the final arrangements threatened to mar the proceedings, and needed intervention by State Health Minister Dr. Deepak Sawant.

With her weight standing at 176.6 kilograms, Abdel-Ati will now begin a year-long course of physiotherapy at VPS Burjeel hospital in Abu Dhabi, her doctors in Mumbai said.

Her family told doctors that as a child she was diagnosed with elephantiasis, a condition that causes the limbs and other body parts to swell, leaving her nearly immobile.

Indian media outlets have said Ahmed's family was not satisfied with her treatment in Mumbai and that differences had arisen with the staff. They said she was upset at being told that it was time for Ms Ahmed's free-of-cost treatment to end and for her to return to Egypt. Shaimaa had also taken up the issue with the Egyptian embassy. On the day of discharge, Saifee hospital said Eman weighed 170 kg. "Now, we have been able to send her on a wheelchair". El Aty was put on a liquid diet to somewhat reduce her weight in preparation for bariatric surgery.

Eman suffered a cerebral stroke as a child which left her bed-ridden and she piled on the pounds.
