Alex Jones sued by Greek yogurt giant Chobani

Greek yogurt maker Chobani is suing Alex Jones and his right-wing media arm InfoWars, alleging the company was defamed by a video he published claiming Chobani had been "caught importing migrant rapists" and brought "crime and tuberculosis" to the Magic Valley community of Twin Falls. The company also wants InfoWars to acknowledge the false information - and says that Jones and InfoWars have ignored Chobani's repeated requests to take down the inaccurate coverage.

Chobani's plant in Twin Falls is the largest yogurt producing facility in the world.

Ulukaya, a Turkish immigrant, has drawn threats for advocating for immigrants and refugees.

The company came into Jones's crosshairs last summer, after a story about refugees in Twin Falls sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl drew national attention. The fake news stories led to a customer boycott call against Chobani products, the suit says.

The complaint says InfoWars released a video on April 11 describing Chobani's practice of hiring refugees and a sexual assault case that did not involve the yogurt company.

The lawsuit, filed Monday, seeks at least $10,000 in attorney fees and punitive damages, citing a series of InfoWars articles that promoted false information about the yogurt company.

The lawsuit also specifically calls out Jones' history of "spurious statements", including his assertion that the US government planned 9/11 and that the Sandy Hook shooting was a hoax.

Representatives at Infowars were unable to immediately respond to the litigation.

"The defendants defamatory statements were created to cause — and did in fact cause — customers to call for a boycott of Chobani's products", the lawsuit stated. "As a result of the conduct of the Defendants, (Chobani) has suffered and continues to suffer substantial damages in an amount to be proven at trial". "He has claimed that the US government orchestrated the 9/11 attacks and the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut", Chobani's attorneys wrote. The video is titled: "[Mainstream Media] Covers for Globalist's Refugee Import Program After Child Rape Case". Jones is also now embroiled in a child custody battle with his ex-wife in Texas, with some of the evidence coming from his online conspiracy rants. Jones' attorney said his client's angry, on-air rants should be considered performance art and should not be used against him in the custody case.
