Russian Federation denies think tank plotted to sway U.S. presidential election

Russian Federation denies think tank plotted to sway U.S. presidential election

The alleged Kremlin plan to impact 2016 USA election ran through a think tank loyal to Vladimir Putin, according to American officials.

US intelligence agencies released a report in January saying they assessed that Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an "influence campaign" using computer hacks, leaks, and other methods to interfere in the election, and that Putin's government developed a clear preference for Donald Trump, who won the November 8 election.

The four former and three current United States officials who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity refused to comment how the U.S. acquired the documents, shortly after the usa elections.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo─čan will meet in the Russian city of Sochi on May 3, a Kremlin spokesman said on April 21.

This plan was circulated among the highest levels of the Russian government, Reuters reported Thursday.

The other document, which was prepared last October, warned that Hillary Clinton was expected to win and that Russian Federation should end the propaganda effort and instead focus on promoting the idea of USA voter fraud to undermine faith in the election system.

The report was based documents supplied by three current and four former USA officials.

"And by the way, it's not the first pack of lies we're hearing from "sources in USA official circles", the spokesperson added.

Seven U.S. officials told Reuters that they obtained two confidential documents from the Putin-controlled think tank.

Russia Today's most popular Clinton video - "How 100% of the 2015 Clintons" "charity' went to. themselves" - accumulated nine millions views on social media, according to the January report.

It also claimed that Russian media outlets were allegedly asked to write reports that would encourage Americans to vote for a pro-Kremlin leader, unlike the previous Obama administration. But in October, Putin and the Russian intelligence services became convinced that their efforts had come up short, and that Clinton would win the election regardless. The officials said the hacking was a covert intelligence operation run separately out of the Kremlin.

Five of the US officials described the institute as the Kremlin's in-house foreign policy think-tank.

Reuters was unable to determine if either man was directly involved in the drafting of the documents.

On Friday, Erdogan's press service sent an official letter to journalists accredited in Turkey saying that those wishing to cover the president's May 3 visit to Russian Federation should register in advance.
