North Korea video portrays United States destroyed in missile barrage

North Korea video portrays United States destroyed in missile barrage

Reports emerged Tuesday that the U.S.is considering shooting down future North Korean missile tests as a show of strength against Pyongyang.

Asked by a reporter what message he had for North Korea's young leader Kim Jong-Un on Monday, Trump replied "Gotta behave". He was treated to a full choral performance, followed by the airing on a massive monitor of the latest in North Korean propaganda videos.

U.S. defence secretary Jim Mattis warned that North Korea's latest failed missile launch was a reckless act of provocation and assured allies in Asia that America was ready to work to achieve a peaceful denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula. It received raucous applause from the hundreds of North Korean officials in attendance.

"I wouldn't describe relations between North Korea and the Obama administration as an era of strategic patience, because the United States greatly restricted North Korea's ability to develop the industries that could promote the nuclear or energy sectors". The U.S.' trade deficit with Japan stood at nearly $69 billion previous year.

The alarming movement on the side of North Korea prompted the US government, under the novice President Donald Trump, to also show force by sending troops near North Korea. The upgraded missile has an improved booster and warhead, enabling it to fire at longer ranges, an official said, noting that the projectile can presumably reach farther from the North Korean coastline and has a greater chance of hitting an incoming missile.

Last month, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson warned that pre-emptive military action was "on the table".

Despite the tension, North Korea may carry out a sixth nuclear test soon, observers say.

Pence also said that the United States would work with its allies and China to exert more economic and diplomatic pressure on the North and increase its military presence in the region.

Pence, whose visit started in South Korea the day after the failed launch by North Korea of what analysts said could have been a new missile, said the threat from the isolated regime was growing.

Lu Chao, director of the China's Border Studies Institute at the Liaoning Academy of Social Sciences, told the Global Times that the latest test, despite its failure, could be another defiant message from Pyongyang that it will not change its tough stance in the face of United States pressure even though the failure showed that Pyongyang's missile technology was flawed.

President Donald Trump said Tuesday "you always have to be concerned" when he was asked how anxious Americans should be about the possibility of nuclear war with North Korea.

In Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters he hopes "there will be no unilateral actions like those we saw recently in Syria and that the USA will follow the line that President Trump repeatedly voiced during the election campaign".

US Vice President Mike Pence reiterated his country's commitment to the security of Japan on Tuesday, as North Korea intensified concerns over its weapons programme with a vow to launch missile tests "every week".

The White House maintains there is no evidence North Korea has those capabilities. He has since praised China for trying to increase pressure on Pyongyang.

Kim Jong Un's regime continues to threaten regular missile tests and defends its nuclear weapons program - though both are banned under UN Security Council resolutions.
