NK engine test likely for satellite rocket, rather than ICBM: US expert

NK engine test likely for satellite rocket, rather than ICBM: US expert

And while Amano believes a diplomatic solution, like the one he helped broker between world powers and Iran in 2015, is "essential", he's skeptical such an agreement can be reached with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and his government. He said in an interview with the Independent Journal Review U.S. patience with the North is running thin, and "all options are on the table".

A Chinese newspaper says the best way to solve North Korea's nuclear issue is by the North giving up its nuclear weapons in exchange for its security.

While this hole in the North's technical ability buys the USA and its allies some time, experts agree the regime will eventually acquire the re-entry technology and have a deliverable ICBM within five years.

During his visit to South Korea last week, Tillerson declared Washington would drop the "failed" approach of "strategic patience" with Pyongyang and warned that USA military action was possible.

Uriminzokkiri said the exercises have shed all pretenses of being a defensive operation - declaring them an intent to assassinate the North's leadership, South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported.

It launched its latest satellite - the Kwangmyongsong 4, or Brilliant Star 4 - into orbit on February 7 previous year, just one month after conducting what it claims was its first hydrogen-bomb test. The United States, Japan and South Korea, as well as Russian Federation and China, took part in talks with Pyongyang between 2003 and 2009 on denuclearizing the Korean peninsula, but North Korea withdrew from the negotiations.

North Korea has a five-year plan to launch more Earth observation satellites and its first geostationary communications satellite - which would be a major technological advance.

Tillerson is the latest in a parade of senior US officials to have their photos taken at the border.

It is unclear whether or not the new administration will actually move forward with sanctions.

Yohap News reported that the propaganda channel then announced that the on-going military drills between South Korea and the United States have "given up all pretenses of being a defensive operation and instead have openly stated the intent to assassinate the North's leadership".

Others have criticized the government for taking too long to come up with measures to cushion the economic damage felt by South Korean businesses.

The proposals could be presented to President Trump within weeks, according to Reuters.
