Pakistan announces squad for West Indies tour, Kamran, Shehzad back

PSL discovery Fakhar Zaman has been picked for both the T20 and ODI squads, while another young PSL star Shadab Khan has been named in the T20 squad.

Opening batsmen Ahmed Shehzad has been recalled to both squads after a year out of global competition but there is no place for Azhar Ali, who started the year as captain of the ODI squad.

After a stellar domestic season Kamran Akmal has forced his way back into the limited overs squads for the tour of the West Indies.

Akmal forced his way back into global cricket after top-scoring with 353 runs in the recent Pakistan Super League which was eventually won by his team Peshawar Zalmi.

Inzamam said that Kamran Akmal had performed well in the Pakistan Super League and that if at any point during the tour, the need arose for another wicket-keeper, Kamran would be required to perform the task.

For the T20Is, pacers Rumman Raees and Usman Khan Shinwari made the cut with Mohammad Amir receiving the axe.

Pakistan doesn't afford to slip lower than their present No. 8 ranking in the ODIs until ICC's deadline of September 30, otherwise it has to play the qualifying rounds for the 2019 World Cup. The remaining three matches will be played in Port of Spain on 30 March, 1 and 2 April.

The selectors finally gave uncapped Asif Zakir a chance in the ODIs after the veteran had been playing domestic cricket for the last 14 years.

Sarfraz Ahmed will be the captain of both the squads.

Twenty20 squad: Ahmad Shehzad, Kamran Akmal, Muhammad Hafeez, Baber Azam, Shoaib Malik, Fakhar Zaman, Sarfraz Ahmad (captain/wicketkeeper), Immad Wasim, Shadab Khan, Muhammad Nawaz, Hassan Ali, Sohail Tanvir, Wahab Riaz, Rumman Raees, Usman Khan Shinwari.
