Gorge-area MLK Day Celebration

This celebration is sponsored by the Northumberland Ministerial Association, reported the Rev. Lucia Lloyd of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. The featured speaker for the event will be Rev. Eddie Collier, who has been pastor of Towaliga County Line Baptist Church since October 1983.

Bluffton: Martin Luther King Jr.

Time: Noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13; doors open 11 a.m. The two-hour celebration will feature inspirational musical performances, speeches, poetry, a recitation of King's "I Have a Dream" speech and a birthday cake reception, she said.

An array of local events will be held next week in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.

A variety of events including a public march and program, service day events, and a race and ethnicity symposium will be held in Georgetown Jan. 16-20. Day on Monday, Jan. 16 with a Memorial Walk, a community program at Kynette United Methodist Church and a fellowship meal after the program.

Dr. King was the chief spokesman for non-violent demonstrations during the civil rights movement.

On Monday, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day Observance Association will hold its annual MLK Day Parade in Downtown Savannah on January 16 beginning at 10 a.m.

"These events are an attempt, by way of the theme Faith and Reconciliation, to engage the City of Auburn as well as the university community", said Green.

Monday's collection will take place on Tuesday January 17.

On Sunday, Jan. 15, Wake Forest will host the 12th Annual GospelFest at 3 p.m.in Brendle Recital Hall, Scales Fine Arts Center.

Students, staff and faculty are involved in planning the event, which is free and open to the public.
