What Does Trump Think Of Vaccines? He Believes In A Debunked Theory

But Kennedy, an environmental attorney and radio host, has a listening ear in the president-elect, who has publicly expressed skepticism over the safety of vaccinations in the past.

Kennedy believes vaccines have led to a rise in autism, a claim that's been debunked by doctors and scientists.

Kennedy, the eldest son of liberal icon Sen. But in the past few years he's also pushed the idea that thimerosal, a preservative in vaccines, is responsible for increased autism rates.

In 2015, he said Congress was stalling on investigating links between autism and the mumps, measles, and rubella (MMR) vaccine because it was scared of Big Pharma, a trillion-dollar industry and the biggest employer of lobbyists. But Kennedy, the son of the late US attorney general and senator, has long argued that vaccines containing the preservative thimerosal may cause autism, and has advocated for parents to more easily opt out of childhood vaccinations.

"President-elect Trump has some doubts about the current vaccine policies and he has questions about it", The Hill reported Kennedy as saying.

A 2011 Institute of Medicine report on eight vaccines given to children and adults "found that with rare exceptions, these vaccines are very safe", the CDC said.

At a Republican presidential debate in 2015, Trump told a similar story of a 2-year-old girl of someone who he said previously worked for him.

To pediatricians, there's nothing left to debate.

"Claims that vaccines are linked to autism, or are unsafe when administered according to the recommended schedule, have been disproven by a robust body of medical literature", said Karen Remley, executive director of AAP. "Vaccines work, plain and simple", she added. But Kennedy, the son of the late US attorney general, believes there is connection and has advocated for parents to be allowed to opt out of vaccinations for their children.

"They get the shot, that night they have a fever of a hundred and three, they go to sleep, and three months later their brain is gone", Kennedy said at a Sacramento movie screening.

"They get the shot".
