Killed, at Least a Dozen Wounded In Jerusalem Truck Attack, Offic..

A significant security operation said to be in place in an effort to avert a further attack.

As a Palestinian resident of East Jerusalem, which Israel considers part of its capital but the world does not, the truck driver would carry an Israeli identity card and be able to move freely through all of the city.

Four people were killed and more than a dozen wounded in West Jerusalem today when a truck ran over a group of Israeli soldiers, authorities said.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says they know who he was and he's likely a supporter of Islamic State.

MDA paramedic Chen Lendi Sharon, who was first on the scene, said: "When we arrived there was chaos, I saw a truck that rammed youngsters getting off the bus next to the Armon Hanatziv view point". The driver was later identified as Fadi al-Qanbar, 28, of Jabel Mukaber. A few seconds after the impact, the truck is shown reversing and backing into them again.

US Pentagon press secretary Peter Cook condemned what he said was a "terrorist attack that targeted Israel's defense forces".

At least four Israelis were killed when a truck plowed through a crowd in the Talpiyot neighborhood of Jerusalem.

Since October 2015, 247 Palestinians, 40 Israelis, two Americans, a Jordanian, an Eritrean and a Sudanese have been killed in the wave of violence, according to an AFP news agency count. During that time, 229 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire.

Security forces and emergency personnel gather at the site of a vehicle-ramming attack in Jerusalem on January 8.

A total of 43 Israeli soldiers were seriously injured during 2016 as well.

Random attacks by Palestinians against Jews have escalated over the past 15 months. "We can only fight it together, but we have to fight it, and we will".

The driver was shot dead by other soldiers and one of the tour guides with the group that was hit as the driver reversed back towards the dead and injured.
