Former CIA Director Quits Trump Transition Team

USA caught Russian officials cheering Trump win: report MORE on national security said he will no longer be involved with the president-elect or the transition.

Woolsey, who served as director of the Central Intelligence Agency under President Bill Clinton, subsequently told CNN's Erin Burnett he was no longer functioning as an advisor to Trump and wanted to avoid any confusion about his role. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper insinuated that the tweets were "disparagement" in testimony before Congress Thursday. James Woolsey, Jr., said Thursday he's resigning from the transition team of President-elect Donald Trump due to disagreements over the impending leader's plans for the USA intelligence community. "He wishes the President-Elect and his Administration great success in their time in office", a spokesman for Woolsey said in a statement Wednesday.

Woolsey's resignation comes amid a brewing battle between President-elect Donald Trump and the intelligence community over purported Russian attempts to influence the 2016 election. The comment likely was not well received within the transition team, and may have contributed to Woolsey's separation. Woolsey was also reportedly taken aback by reports that Trump is planning to overhaul the intelligence framework of the country, according to people close to Woolsey. "To be called "senior adviser" and your opinion is not sought is something he can not handle".

Woolsey said he has only met with Trump in person a few times.

Earlier Thursday, three top U.S.

Also Thursday, The Washington Post reported that USA intelligence agencies have electronic proof that high-level officials in Moscow's government jubilantly celebrated and congratulated themselves immediately following Trump's win in November.
