Carl Paladino Under Pressure To Quit Over Comments Against The Obamas

The Buffalo school board voted 6-2 on Thursday to oust Carl Paladino from the city's school board, giving him 24 hours to resign before it petitions the state's education commissioner to remove him.

Carl Paladino, co-chairman of Donald Trump's presidential campaign in NY, reportedly says he will not resign from the Buffalo school board.

In his December 27 statement, Mr. Paladino said, "No, I'm not leaving the school board, not when it's time to help implement the real choice elements of Trump's plan for education reform". Paladino co-chaired President-elect Donald Trump's campaign in NY. It applies to me, every other board member, every staff member. She said at the meeting, that his comments reflected negatively on "the Buffalo Board of Education, the City of Buffalo and its leadership and its citizens, the State of NY, and every decent human being in America and overseas who has been shocked and offended by his words".

"He has caused such a fire storm and has hurt and offended so many people, not just in our great city, but across the state and across the country", said Hope Jay, Buffalo School Board member. But a number of media outlets are calling Paladino's comments "controversial".

Board President Barbara Seals Nevergold ripped Paladino up one side and down the other in a scathing speech before the vote Thursday. Larry Quinn and Patti Pierce, both Paladino allies, were the two members to oppose it.

Paladino drew national outcry the last week after he made several comments about the Obamas, including wishing death on President Obama and derogatory remarks about Michelle Obama.

Carl Paladino speaks with reporters at Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in NY on December 5, 2016.

The Buffalo school board voted by a measure of 6 to 2 on Thursday to demand that member Carl Paladino, who served as the co-chairman of Donald Trump's presidential campaign in NY, resign within 24 hours due to his incredibly racist remarks about the Obamas in an email he inadvertently sent to the Buffalo publication Artvoice.

"We have what's called a Dignity For All Students act".

Nevergold added that she had received hundreds of complaints after Paladino's comments were made public. But on Wednesday, her office released its boldest statement yet, saying it is reviewing its options and monitoring the situation.

The Buffalo Parent Teacher Organization, Showing up for Racial Justice, VOICE Buffalo and Buffalo Immigrant and Refugee Leadership Team, District Parent Coordinating Council and the Buffalo Teachers Federation all participated in the rally.
