Washington Redskins demolish Chicago Bears, keep playoff hopes alive

Washington Redskins demolish Chicago Bears, keep playoff hopes alive

Kirk Cousins threw for a touchdown and ran for two more, and the Washington Redskins gave their fading playoff hopes a boost with a 41-21 victory over the Chicago Bears on Saturday.

CHICAGO | Matt Barkley didn't just take a step back Saturday with his career-high five interceptions.

This past Monday night the Redskins came up with a lackluster performance that still could be the game that will keep them from making the postseason for a second consecutive season.

If the Dallas Cowboys beat the Detroit Lions on Monday night, the Redskins would almost be in control of their playoff destiny again. This matchup is very important because it could determine whether or not Washington makes the playoffs.

The Redskins got on the board early in the first quarter.

Cousins, shaky against Carolina, was 18 of 29 for 270 yards.

"[I'd] seen the guy coming the bad angle and all I kept saying was 'God, let me get to this end zone, '" Brown said of the moment. He has rushed for 351 yards and caught 43 passes for another 312 yards. A few throws to Deonte Thompson could have gone for serious yards after the catch, but the ball wasn't delivered in stride. Chicago has been competitive despite losing four of its last five, with six-point setbacks to the New York Giants and Tennessee being accompanied by back-to-back three-point losses versus potential playoff teams Detroit and Green Bay.

Barkley threw five interceptions on Saturday, and a total of eight in the last two games. They surrendered conversions on seven of 12 third downs. While signed to the active roster on October 28, Brown had yet to have a carry in a regular season game prior to the Week 16 matchup with the Bears.

After a Matt Barkley interception early in the second quarter, the Redskins kicked a field goal to extend their lead to 17-0.

Redskins: TE Jordan Reed sat out because of a sprained left shoulder. No sacks came on the afternoon as Leonard Floyd departed with a suspected concussion (concussion protocol). In their last two games, the Bears are minus-nine in turnover ratio with no takeaways and nine giveaways. Safety Deon Bush departed with an ankle injury.
