Harvard students plan mass protest against Stephen Bannon's appearance at university conference

However, the Boston Globe also reported this week that student protesters were organizing a "peaceful" show of force against the appearance of Bannon and fellow Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway at the event.

Mr. Bannon then left Breitbart to head Donald Trump's presidential campaign, and now he has been named the chief strategist of Mr. Trump's presidency.

"Trump brought racist ideologues into the mainstream", the Facebook event description of the protest reads.

Trump's decision to elevate Bannon, who attended Harvard Business School in the 80's, was recently disparaged in a letter to the New York Times signed by 650 women who attended or now attend HBS. We do not accept hate and bigotry as normal or legitimate.

In prepared remarks Kennedy School Dean Doug W. Elmendorf had planned to deliver at the event's opening on Wednesday, Elmendorf wrote that Harvard's decision to invite guests does not constitute an endorsement of their views. Bob Casey have already come out to strongly oppose the pick. "Moreover, the school stands proudly and firmly for its values as an institution: We believe resolutely in the worth of each person regardless of their race, gender, religion, ethnicity, and other characteristics, so we support inclusiveness and reject prejudice". Lown said the rally he is helping to organize will take place outside of the Kennedy School tomorrow at 5 p.m. He is one of Trump's most controversial hires.

A group of students from across Harvard's graduate schools are planning to protest Bannon's appointment, although the group did not object to Harvard inviting Bannon to speak on campus, Kennedy School student Shanoor Seervai, a protest organizer, said. A protest is tentatively planned for Thursday.

Certain ex-colleagues, including Jones, have told the Times that they don't see Bannon as a racist individual, which seems odd in light of his statements and editorial work on Breitbart.com since 2007 that caters to the alt-right. Two weeks ago, 169 House Democrats signed a letter urging Trump to rescind the appointment given Bannon's ties to white nationalism. "In his victory speech, Trump pledged to be the president for "all Americans" and to 'bind the wounds of division" in our country.
