USA Dominates after Day 4 of Rio Olympics

Barbara Engleder of Germany won gold in the closely fought women's 50 metre rifle three position event yesterday, her first medal in her fourth and probably last Olympic Games.

The 33-year-old army officer landed Germany their third gold of the day after a brace in rowing with a score of 458.6 points, .2 clear of Zhang with Du finishing with a score of 447.4.

The United States continued to add to their medal collection on Wednesday when two gold, three silver and one bronze gave Team USA 32 medals overall in the Olympics. Le Clos, who had edged past Phelps in the same event in the 2012 London Olympics by the slightest of margins, danced and shadow-boxed with Phelps sitting right next to him. Engleder, a sport soldier and mother of a young son, had no idea how close it was at the end. Zhang, 27, said she was really nervous in her first Olympic final. She followed that with a skipping, wind milling dance across the venue.

"That means so much to me because I'm quitting after that right now". She stopped shooting after the 2008 Games to have a family - she is married to Chinese pistol shooter Pang Wei - and said she was done after London, too.

In the women's all-around, Simone Biles is the favorite to win gold and Aly Raisman will be a medal contender.

Du Li, also representing China, was ahead of Zhang with one shot to go before the bronze medal exit. "This is my last Olympic Games and nearly the last competition to shoot", she said. "At least I have in Rio 2016 a silver and a bronze medal".
