No more free TV from Hulu, but Yahoo is here to help

One of the first moves by the tech company under the new Verizon ownership banner is the launch of Yahoo View, a free, ad-supported TV-watching platform featuring content from Hulu. Time Warner, Comcast, 21st Century Fox, and Disney are also Hulu investors.

Hulu Senior VP Ben Smith said that Hulu was considering to launch the subscription service from the past many years.

The video streaming service is set to drop its free version and will instead focus on its monthly subscription editions.

The two tiers users will have to choose from are the pre-existing $7.99-per-month service with ads and the $11.99-per-month service without ads. "This partnership with Hulu is a natural extension of that strategy, bringing the best of TV & entertainment content to our lifestyle vertical". Find out where to watch you favorite shows now that Hulu is switching to subscription-only.

Hulu is loved by hundreds of users all around the globe due to its free streaming services that can be obtained pretty easily.

However, while free TV on Hulu might be ending, the content won't necessarily disappear.

Viewers will now have to stream these free Hulu shows from Yahoo View.

So if you can still access the free services, why didn't Hulu just keep them? While those shows will leave the service, they won't leave the web altogether. Per the Hollywood Reporter, View will use Hulu's video player with broadcast television available for its users, following the Hulu model of having the five most recent episodes of a series accessible.

Hulu could now be used to take on the giant streaming service Netflix, The Verge reported. Comcast's Xfinity also offers all of Hulu's free content; other sites that carry free episodes from Hulu include NY magazine's Vulture.com and Time Inc.'s People.com. Like them, Hulu has also seriously invested in original content, particularly comedies like Casual and the continuation of The Mindy Project.

Beginning this fall, Yahoo says the site will offer thousands of TV, anime, Korean drama and movies including full episodes, films, and clips for free.
